Apple’s iPhone X has the best smartphone display ever, says DisplayMate

The iPhone X has started shipping worldwide, albeit in limited numbers. Those who have managed to get their hands on the device are probably spending their time admiring the edge-to-edge OLED display. As they should be since it is being called “the best smartphone display” by DisplayMate. The credit not only goes to Apple, but Samsung as well for having manufactured the OLED panels for the device.

In its recent shootout of the iPhone X’s OLED display,¬†DisplayMate concluded¬†that Apple has “produced an impressive Smartphone display with excellent performance and accuracy”. It is also worth noting that the OLED panel has been developed by Samsung display while the specifications, calibration and management is all Apple. The firm that specialises in display shootouts added that the iPhone X’s OLED hardware includes Precision Display Calibration developed by Apple, which helps bring “accurate, high performance, and gorgeous display, with close to textbook perfect calibration and performance.”

DisplayMate had a comprehensive testing of the iPhone X’s display for colour accuracy, brightness and contrast, among other things. The firm noted that one of the reasons the iPhone X’s OLED delivers better colour than Samsung’s own is because iOS provides better system-wide colour management. The iPhone X panels are “individually calibrated at the factory for both color and contrast accuracy,” DisplayMate added.
